North Korean talks are back on, Trump says after meeting Pyongyang envoy

U.S. President Donald Trump said talks with North Korea in NY have been very positive and he is expecting the delegation from Pyongyang to travel to Washington on Friday to deliver a letter to him from leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump said the letter from Kim, hand-delivered by Kim Yong Chol, was "very nice" and "very interesting" - but then said he had not opened it yet.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a black sport utility vehicle entered the White House grounds and pulled up to the South Portico, where Kim Yong Chol, a former spy chief who is leading the North Korea side in pre-summit talks, stepped out.

"Now we're going to deal", Trump told reporters moments after the meeting ended. "So we will see where it leads".

Trump said he'd told North Korea's leaders to "take your time" with the peace process.

The report also said Kim and Lavrov agreed to boost exchanges and cooperation between North Korea and Russian Federation, with the two agreeing on a bilateral summit this year.

Trump tweeted Tuesday that is cancellation letter got a "solid response".

Trump joked about the letter the North delivered but would not disclose its contents. But it captures the drama of a reality TV show and, in this case, reflects a high-stakes diplomatic one.

The White House emphasised that it has remained in close contact with South Korean and Japanese officials as preparations for the talks continue.

In Seoul, US negotiators on Friday expressed optimism after meeting their North Korean counterparts for preparatory talks at Panmunjom, on the fortified border between the two Koreas.

The revival of the summit came after Trump met with a North Korean emissary on Friday afternoon at a meeting that extended for almost two hours, much longer than was expected. He cited "tremendous anger and open hostility" by Pyongyang but also urged Kim Jong Un to call him. But he has since put it back on track following a conciliatory statement from the regime.

And while Kim Jong-un, during a meeting with Russia's foreign minister in Pyongyang on Thursday, said the North's will for denuclearisation is "unchanged and consistent and fixed", it is still unclear if his vision fits with Washington's strict demands.

Russia's involvement in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula will ensure the maintenance of the process, Beijing-based political analyst and CNTV commentator Tom McGregor told Sputnik, sharing his views on what could lay behind a series of controversial messages between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

The on-off summit looks to be going ahead as planned despite a recent declaration by President Trump that it would not be going ahead. He said of the North Koreans, "I believe they will be coming down to Washington on Friday".

They were spotted by reporters walking along the Colonnade toward the West Wing, where the group escorted Kim into the Oval Office.

The third quarter was Houston's highest-scoring frame of the game, yet it was no match for the onslaught they had to face. His ability to take advantage of smaller defenders on him and shoot over them has truly made him unguardable.

If held, the Trump-Kim meeting will be the first summit between the two countries that have always been at odds over the North's pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, which are now believed to be capable of striking the US mainland.
