Police find 11 bodies from home in Indian capital


It is suspected that one member of the family killed the rest and then committed suicide.

Police in India's capital said they found 11 bodies at a home under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, including 10 that were blindfolded and hanging. There were also no bullet marks on the bodies of the victims, Kimar said.

The handwritten notes found during a search point "toward observance of some definite spiritual or mystical practices by the whole family", police said in a statement. "We can say something about the cause of death only after the post mortem reports come".

A police officer said the notes talk about how one can attain salvation and how the human body is temporary but the soul always continues to live on.

Police is now awaiting the post-mortem reports of the bodies, which would clear if one of the family members killed the rest and then committed suicide or was it a suicide pact.

The deceased were identified as Narayan Devi, 77, her two sons Bhavnesh, 50, and Lalit, 45, her daughters-in-law Savita, 48, and Teena, 42, her daughter Pratibha, 57, her grandchildren Priyanka, 33, Nitu, 25, Monu, 23, Dhruv, 15, and Shivam, 15. "These are murders", he said.

Devi's grandson, Ketan Nagpal, said the family members were killed and someone was trying to mislead the investigation.
