Trump has denied any collusion with Russia and has repeatedly cited Putin's denials of any Russian interference in the campaign, suggesting there is little or nothing he can do to demand accountability.

His comments came one day after a USA grand jury indicted 12 officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate, or GRU, of the Russian General Staff. They also allegedly hacked into the computer network of the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in an operation starting around March 2016.

Trump's repeated attacks on the news media while overseas - he also lashed out at NBC News and The Sun newspaper during Friday's news conference - has alarmed free speech advocates, especially as Trump is set to hold a joint press availability Monday with Putin, whose country is known for being deeply hostile to a free press.

"I don't think we have a lot to say to President Putin", Rosenberg told CBN News Middle East Bureau Chief Chris Mitchell.

"There's no allegation that the conspiracy changed the vote count or affected any election result", Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in announcing the charges at a press conference in Washington. "I think it's very important that they meet", he told reporters en route from Mexico on Friday, in remarks embargoed until Saturday. Senator Tammy Duckworth, the representative of Illinois Democrats, stated that the USA had to apply the force of the American sanctions against Russia and impose them on broader sectors of the Russian economy. But he predicted Putin wouldn't confess. "I did it. You got me, '" Trump said Friday, referring to Putin. Jeff Flake, an Arizona Republican, said in a speech on the chamber's floor Thursday.

On the worldwide agenda, the Syrian crisis could be a focus of the talks between Putin and Trump, as there are many issues regarding the situation around Syria, Ushakov said.

British Trade Secretary Liam Fox said anti-Trump protesters were an embarrassment to themselves as they had shown bad manners to the leader of the free world.

Eighteen Democratic members of the House Foreign Affairs panel urged Trump in a letter to cancel the meeting, saying that "due to your constant expressions of sympathy for Vladimir Putin" the lawmakers "do not have confidence that you can faithfully negotiate with the Russian leader".

Trump, a 72-year-old former NY real estate developer who praises his own dealmaking skills, and Putin, a 65-year-old former KGB spy who cultivates a macho image as a Russian man of action, are due to have some time alone at the summit. "You can only ask so many times", Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after the meeting.

But Ushakov told reporters on Friday that the U.S. side in the summit may raise the issue of alleged election meddling.

Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he is concerned that the President's "ad-hoc" style of going into meetings and "winging it" is not appropriate and that the meeting should be called off with Putin.

But domestic politics have never been far from Trump's mind in Europe.
