Hired!: Cop shaves homeless man to help him land job at McDonald's

The City of Tallahassee Police Department posted the video on its Facebook page.

Officer Tony Carlson didn't know it, but when he was taking a razor to the man's facial stubble on Sunday, someone was using a cellphone to record his good deed.

His boss, Police Chief Michael DeLeo, recognizing that these acts of kindness are indeed worth celebrating, disagreed with Carlson's modest statement. "I looked at it and it was missing a screw". Now with the working razor, Phil tried shaving, but without a mirror, it was hard to do.

In a Facebook post Officer Carlson said the man, who he named as Phil, had told him he had been promised a job at the McDonald's next door if he turned up for work clean shaven.

Carlson fixed a loose screw on the razor and shaved Phil - who wore a yellow T-shirt and dark-colored cap as he leaned in for the shave.

At that same time, Tallahassee Police Officer Tony Carlson happened to be at the McDonald's. So Officer Carlson shaved his beard for him.

Officer Carlson, for his part, suggested his actions were nothing out of the ordinary and the real credit should go to Phil's ambitions. "You go to a scene and you try to resolve it with a positive ending and something that's going to last", Carlson said.

Phil said the manager confirmed he had the job as soon as his identification paperwork was in order. Rather, that sort of thing happens all the time and it was just pure coincidence that this particular instance was caught on film.

'One of his comments was that I should be a barber'.

"There's a time and place to arrest people and take them to jail, of course, but if you can help and fix the situation to [help] it get better, the chances are you're not gonna have to come back out there, later".

"He told me he had talked to the manager at McDonald's and he was set to get a job - but he still needed to get his ID and social security card", posted Officer Carlson.

"If somebody else sees this when they can help somebody out, hopefully, they'll think of this", he said.
