Police Pull Gun On Actor Ving Rhames At His California Home

Actor Ving Rhames claims police held him at gunpoint in his own home while responding to a neighbor's call that a "large black man" had broken in.

Rhames said that after police asked him to open his front screen door, with one hand, he stepped outside with his hands in the air. "I'm in my home, it was around 2:15 in the afternoon".

He didn't think much of it, figuring it was his two English bulldog puppies messing around, before he heard a knock on the front door. "Just because someone called and said a large black man is breaking in, when I opened up the wooden door a 9mm is pointed at me".

After officers responded, Rodiguez said they deescalated the situation. "The captain of police. he recognized me because my son played against his [kids"] school. "And so we came.'" Rhames apparently went across the street with the captain and an officer to talk to the neighbor, who denied making the call.

When asked about experiences of racism in his own life, Rhames explained that a neighbour called 911 to report a "large black man" breaking in to his house, which led armed officers to show up, out of the blue, on his doorstep. Such a scary thought, especially for Ving who worries about the safety of his teenage son, Freedom.
