Manafort Drops Appeal of Civil Case Against Mueller

The case against Manafort, brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the Eastern District of Virginia, is focused exclusively on allegations that the former Trump adviser had committed a range of financial crimes, from tax evasion to bank fraud, that have no direct tie to his campaign work.

At the same time, Mueller's team continues to press the president's legal team for an interview with the commander in chief.

In pretrial arguments, prosecutor Greg Andres told the court the government would only bring up Manafort's campaign work in the context of a witness from a bank who gave him a loan, with the expectation that the banker would win consideration for a post in the Trump administration.

Yesterday, prosecutors said in court filings that they intend to prove that Mr Manafort earned more than $60m (€51m) lobbying for the former pro-Russia Ukrainian government and failed to report "a significant percentage" of that.

Prosecutors have said they don't plan to offer evidence related to the Russian Federation case, and that references to Manafort's association with the Trump campaign will be limited.

Her mother told the News-Press that Jones was in the International Baccalaureate program at Dunbar High School in Fort Myers. A search-and-rescue effort that included divers was launched, but the young woman's body washed up in Tel Aviv early Monday.

It's the first trial to result from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into potential ties between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

"It's a test of whether he can get Manafort convicted of something, but it really tells us very little about the thing he is here to investigate", said McCarthy, and it begs the question of whether a special counsel was needed to investigate Russian meddling in the election. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Manafort is charged with lying on tax forms and bank fraud. Having his former campaign chairman, who helped run Trump's campaign at a critical point of the election, in the news so consistently shines a negative light on him. This is a notable development because much of the noise surrounding the Manafort trial began in May. He is expected to testify against Manafort in the trial.

The trial is not expected to reveal many new details about Manafort's time as the chairman of the Trump campaign, and prosecutors have said they are not planning to introduce any evidence suggesting coordination between the campaign and Russia's influence operations.

Manafort, the former chairman of the Donald Trump presidential campaign, was jailed in mid-June on suspicions of witness tampering. "When Mueller came in, he revived that investigation".

Vehicle attack kills cyclists, including Americans, in Tajikistan
AFP reported that separate police accounts indicate that at least four suspects have been arrested and five killed by police. Four of the cyclists died and three others, including a woman from Switzerland, were injured, Tajik officials said.

Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer, has indicated that Mr Trump could pardon Mr Manafort should he be found guilty.

Mueller has submitted more than 500 pieces of evidence, including tax filings and mortgage statements, and pictures of Manafort's expensive watches and homes.

He is scheduled to go on trial in the United States capital in September on separate charges brought by Mueller of conspiracy, money laundering and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government.

Mueller's team has indicted or secured guilty pleas from 32 people and three companies, including the indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officials.
