James has made no secret of his political opinions, calling Trump "a bum" past year and telling CNN's Don Lemon last week that he would "would never sit across" from the president, prompting Trump to insult James' intelligence.

The "Mike" Trump was referring to was obviously the one and only Michael Jordan.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted a jab at James after he was critical of the president in an interview with CNN anchor Dan Lemon.

Lemon began by going through his recent interview with James - which went beyond the basketball star's political views and placed great focus on how he's building a public school for at-risk children.

Her response to Trump's broadsides on James was illustrative to the path she has more frequently taken.

"Let me not mince words here", Lemon said on CNN Tonight, looking directly into the camera and delivering his monologue with a steady, calm demeanor - "this president traffics in racism and is fueled by bullying".

"President Trump is trying a divide and conquer strategy here, and here's how it goes", he continued. "From keeping children at the border in cages to bullying journalists at every one of his rallies and every chance he gets". James is constantly entering into new ventures outside of the National Basketball Association, finding new ways to reach people and impact the country.

Navarro noted that Trump's rhetoric criticizing people who are African-American has a long history, pointing to his "s**thole countries" remarks and his attacks on National Football League players kneeling to protest police violence against others who are African-American.

One possible opportunity for the two leaders to meet would be during the United Nations General Assembly in late September. But Trump's remarks did represent a marked softening of tone from when he lashed out at Rouhani in a tweet a week ago.
