In late July, CNN ran a story, co-authored by Watergate icon Carl Bernstein, that included an explosive claim about President Trump. If that assertion were to be proven false, it would be enormously damaging for Trump, and a boon for Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.
So excited was the mainstream media by this anonymously sourced story that it dominated the headlines for days.
Mr. Trump has denied knowledge of the meeting.
After he joined Trump's team in May, Giuliani said the president fired James Comey because he wouldn't say Trump wasn't a target of an investigation - an admission that could potentially play into an obstruction of justice case. On Tuesday, CNN said it stands by its story. "We were not the source of the story", Davis falsely claimed to Cooper the previous Wednesday.
Chelsea boss Sarri believes Abramovich wanted him for football style
MF Mateo Kovacic, 8 - An impressive full debut from the Croatian, who looks perfectly suited to Sarri's preferred style of play. He also took the club to their overseas pre-season tour, which began in Australia, before coming back to Europe.
Carlson asked, "Doesn't CNN have some sort of obligation to viewers to explain what this is all about?"
Now, Davis admits he was -in fact- the source of the story.
But it gets worse. It attached an editor's note to that story on Sunday noting that "Davis agreed to reveal his identity as the source of that information and said he is no longer confident that it is true".
Michael Cohen prosecutors granted immunity to publisher David Pecker
By keeping celebrities' embarrassing secrets, the company was able to ingratiate itself with them and ask for favors in return. It's late August, a time when the news cycle traditionally slows down and television airs a good number of repeat broadcasts.
FILE - In this May 3, 2018, file photo, attorney Lanny Davis speaks during an interview with The Associated Press in his K Street office in Washington. You can't make it up at this point.
"I think the reporting of the story got mixed up in the course of a criminal investigation. They won't because it is false", Mr. Stone said in the video. In other words, the story reports claims that Cohen had said he was willing to make, not the underlying truth of those claims.
The television news channel won't even acknowledge that Davis has changed his tune. Did CNN have other sources who corroborated what Cohen knew of Trump and Junior discussing the meeting with the Russians in 2016? This isn't journalism-this is fanaticism.
Expanding on his statement later Monday, Mr. Stone told New York Daily News that all three outlets have approached him about an alleged telephone conversation he supposedly had with Mr. Trump shortly before WikiLeaks began releasing the personal emails of John Podesta, Mrs. Clinton's former campaign chairman.
