Hurricane Florence is rapidly strengthening and is expected to hit the USA east coast later this week as a major hurricane, according to the latest forecasted track.

SC emergency officials have elevated the state's readiness again, as they prepare for the possibility of Florence becoming a major hurricane and affecting the state.

Florence is forecast to rapidly strengthen to a major hurricane by Monday, and is expected to remain an extremely unsafe major hurricane through Thursday. The gravest danger to the USA remains Hurricane Florence, which continued its west-northwest crawl toward the southeastern US coast, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour.

Risky swells generated by Florence affected Bermuda and have begun to reach parts of the Eastern Seaboard. They were likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, according to the NHC.
