From amps to microwaves, Amazon tipped to reveal more Alexa devices

People familiar with Amazon's inner workings, who spoke to the aforementioned source, claim that some of the upcoming devices will have Alexa built-in.

A new report by CNBC suggests that the company has plans for at least eight new Alexa-enabled devices, ranging from predictable items, such as an amplifier and a subwoofer, to the less conventional, such as a microwave. Also, the range is said to be spread across different segments such as microwave oven, amplifier, receiver, subwoofer and even an in-car accessory. Now, Amazon is looking to expand the capabilities of its assistant by releasing the Alexa Gadget Toolkit.

A few months ago, it partnered with home builder Lennar to include two Echo speakers in certain new homes and provide visits by Amazon technicians. And in its most recent earnings report, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos hinted at his ambition for making Alexa more widely used.

More so than other virtual assistants including Siri and the Google Assistant, Amazon's Alexa has always been focused on the home. At the lowest end of the line is Amazon Echo Dot, a small Alexa-enabled speaker, without comprising on features seen in pricier counterparts.
