Woods, Fowler share Tour Championship lead

At the Tour Championship, Woods shot a 5-under 65 in the first round that was capped with an eagle to tie him with Rickie Fowler for the lead.

The 14-time major victor, bidding for his first PGA Tour win in five years at East Lake, sunk a 27-footer to join Rickie Fowler at the top of the leaderboard. He shot a 62 at Aronimink in the opening round of the BMW Championship two weeks ago on a rain-soaked course that allowed just about everyone to go low.

For Woods, this one felt even better because of the dry, tougher conditions at East Lake.

The crowd at East Lake was larger and louder than it has been in five years, which was the last time Tiger Woods was at the Tour Championship.

Chinese goods on USA radar, India braces for shockwave
The Commerce Ministry gave no details of China's response to USA tariffs imposed in their fight over Chinese technology policy. Officials in Beijing have already announced that they will retaliate against the USA if the new levies are imposed.

Woods and Fowler head a star-studded leaderboard that includes Rory McIlroy (67), Justin Thomas (67) and world No. 1 Justin Rose (66), while Fedex Cup leader Bryson DeChambeau opened the door for all the players to swoop on the big prize pool with an opening 71 that left him in the bottom portion of the field.

Tiger Woods grabbed a share of the lead in brilliant style in the Tour Championship as Justin Rose gained the upper hand in the battle for the FedEx Cup title and a £7.6million bonus.

While the rankings formulas continued to play out, Fowler and Woods were the stories on the course Thursday.

At the 5th hole, Woods was staring at a 26-foot birdie opportunity, but the putt required an extra ooomph of firmness, since there was a slight rise on the green right off the bat. "I don't know that answer why we've clicked, but what I can tell you is that it's always fun picking Tiger's brain a little bit", said DeChambeau.

How to watch Real Madrid vs
The Champions League trophy had barely been presented last May when the ground under began to shift under European soccer. The five-time world player of the year was clearly distraught as he left the pitch, still shaking his head.

Woods underwent spinal fusion surgery in April 2017 in a last-ditch attempt to save his career and has recorded six top 10s on the PGA Tour this season as he seeks a first win since 2013.

"Our game plan today was being more defensive but when you have a green light, just absolutely go for it". This, it's hard to get the ball closer. The leader will start at 10 under, with the next four players at eight under through five under respectively, and so on.

"It's kind of nice to be able to fly under the radar but I don't want to".

Woods is still in the mix despite Xander Schauffele (64) surging into the outright lead at 13 under at the elite 70-man event - the penultimate leg of the $US67 million ($A93 million) FedEx Cup playoffs.
