G League to offer $125K contracts to elite prospects

Currently, players must be a year removed from graduating high school in the United States or at least 19 years old if they're an worldwide player to be eligible for the draft.

Without the restrictions of the NCAA's amateurism rules, players will also be free to hire agents, profit off their likeness and pursue marketing deals from sneaker companies. However, the G League hopes this program can be a stepping stone for some athletes who still need to hone their craft and get acclimated to National Basketball Association life.

Others, however, believe the G League option will be attractive to those players who don't want to go to college in the first place.

The G-League is offering a new path to the National Basketball Association for one-and-done candidates.

As reported by ESPN, the NBA's developmental G-League is creating a development pathway for the single season many elite recruits spend between high school graduation and their eligibility for the NBA Draft.

The NBA's decision to entice budding star high school players as an alternative to its one-and-done rule would pay those prospects a higher salary than the current maximum in the WNBA, a figure in the neighborhood of $110,000-$120,000 annually.

In April, the Commission on College Basketball recommended that the NCAA and NBA embrace alternative options for one-and-done caliber prospects. A change is still expected for the 2022 NBA Draft which would open selection to all graduating high school seniors once again. The offer is only going to be available to players who are at least 18 years old and not enrolled in college.

Per the report, seven of the ten top 2019 college basketball prospects have yet to commit to a school.

Washington Post Publishes New Khashoggi Column
Several US media said Monday that the Saudis are preparing a report that Khashoggi's death resulted from a botched interrogation . Instead, he says what others would not, openly embracing the compromises he justifies as best for the American bottom line.

"We believe this is an answer to that call", Turner told ESPN.

"More broadly, this working group will also oversee the implementation of the professional path initiative", the league announced.

Given the significant difference in physical maturity and experience, G League Select prospects could be risking their draft stock while their peers face NCAA competition. I think there should be a path to a second season, something like a medical redshirt, so they can decide to return to the G-League for the second season and then enter the draft after that. Players who have already gone through the National Basketball Association draft process are ineligible for the select contract.
