Trump to name Heather Nauert next United Nations ambassador, reports say

As a Fox News host, Nauert once declared that she would buy Trump's daughter Ivanka's products after the chain of luxury department stores Nordstrom announced that it was closing down the line.

She will need confirmation by the Senate, where Trump's Republican Party enjoys a majority.

Heather Nauert, who earlier this year had been considered a possible successor to White House spokeswoman, Sarah Sanders, gained experience on diplomacy by working at the State Department, but she lacks the political and policy credentials of Ms Haley, who is a former governor of SC. She has been chief spokeswoman for the State Department since April previous year, a role for which she was poached from Fox.

Nikki Haley announced in October that she was stepping down from her position in the Trump administration as United Nations ambassador. Nauerts strength may be in her ability to communicate White House policy, the New York Times reports: "Mr. Trump values television skills and Ms. Nauert has impressed him with her communication ability".

May and her government objected to this ruling, saying that it was pointless because they planned to go through with Brexit. Hardline Conservative Brexiteers say May's compromise deal does not represent enough of a break with Brussels.

"If Nauert is nominated and approved, people will be interested to see whether she's willing and able to do the diplomatic toil or whether she will see this as an extension of the spokesman position and focus more on presentation of USA position before the Security Council", said Gowan. She is a graduate of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and Mount Vernon College in Washington.

"She's been a supporter for a long time, and she's really excellent", he said then.

She oversaw public diplomacy in Washington and all of the roughly 275 overseas US embassies, consulates and other posts.

But she has taken on a bolder role under Pompeo, assertively seeking to promote his message.

The 23-year-old striker declined and then delivered an excellent speech where she encouraged more women to play football. I wanted to end with some words for young girls around the world: "believe in yourselves", she said.

Nauert raised eyebrows in June when she appeared to describe the D-Day landings - when the United States, Britain and allies stormed Nazi-occupied France in 1944 - as evidence of a longtime "strong relationship" with Germany. She hadn't specialized in foreign policy or worldwide relations.

The president both denies watching hours of Fox and other networks each day and says publicly that he "watches all the shows". She is a quick study.

But Bruen, who now heads the Global Situation Room consulting firm, questioned whether Nauert was the best pick when "American influence on the world stage is at a historic low".

"If I were the State Department's spokesperson, on an official trip to learn more about the dark, dubious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a USA resident, I probably would have skipped the tourist-in-Riyadh photos". In 2017, when asked by The Washington Post about political donations made by lawyers on the special counsel's team, Barr said that "prosecutors who make political contributions are identifying fairly strongly with a political party", and added, "I would have liked to see [Mueller] have more balance on this group".

Engagement ring lost moments before proposal found by police
A man was proposing to his girlfriend in Times Square when he dropped the ring and it fell about 2.4 metres down a utility grate. The man had chosen to pop the question shortly before midnight at the NY landmark. "The couple have left the United States".
