Yankees reportedly agree to deal with Troy Tulowitzki

The New York Yankees and veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki have reportedly agreed to a league-minimum deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Yankees reached an agreement with Tulowitzki with the plan, if healthy, to play him at shortstop even if they end up signing Manny Machado (who would play third).

Tulowitzki, who turned 34 in October, will earn the league minimum from the Yankees, while the Blue Jays will be on the hook for the remainder of his contract, which includes a lofty $20 million in 2019. With Didi's impending return that's no guarantee with the Yankees but as most of us know Tulowitzki has always dreamed of wearing the pinstripes and grew up idolizing Yankees legend and former shortstop Derek Jeter. That leaves them with little risk in signing Tulowitzki.

Philippines death toll jumps to 75 after floods and landslides
But he said it had been raining in Bicol even before Usman made landfall and brought torrential rains and landslides. Many of those who perished were due to landslides and floods, the region's civil defense office said in a report.

A first-round pick - seventh overall - by Colorado in the 2005 draft, Tulowitzki was a five-time All-Star for the Rockies before being dealt to the Blue Jays in July 2015.

Having spent the entire 2018 season on the disabled list, Tulowitzki last appeared in 2017, when he slashed a pedestrian.249/.300/.378 in 260 plate appearances in yet another injury-plagued season. He also won his two Gold Gloves in 2010 and '11. Tulo's presence in the lineup will allow phenom Gleyber Torres to remain at second base.

Tulowitzki is an intriguing option for the Yankees due to their current vacancy at shortstop. I also think if Machado wants to sign with the Yankees it's going to be on their terms. Gregorius is expected to miss at least half the 2019 season. It should have nearly no impact on their Machado pursuit, aside from perhaps a little extra leverage in negotiations. It's a spare part for the Yankees, it's not a sign that the Yankees have moved on from the Machado sweepstakes.

Antonio Brown 'still feeling discomfort,' will be game-time decision Sunday
The report said Brown became "disgusted" and threw a football in anger at one of his teammates during a walk-through, citing several sources.

If he proves he can still hit, even when Gregorius comes back, Tulowitzki can give the New York Yankees depth and even get some at-bats at DH for them.

Once Tulowitzki wanted to join the team, it was common sense for the Yankees to sign him.
