China confirms United States trade talks in Beijing next week

The trade war is now in a temporary truce, but should that change the economic fallout threatens to hobble global economic growth.

At a summit in Argentina late previous year, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to a ceasefire, deciding to hold off on imposing more tariffs for 90 days starting December 1 while they attempt to negotiate a deal.

The ministry said that it would host the U.S. team on January 7-8 for high-level talks, during which representatives of both parties will discuss "implementing the important consensus" mapped out by Trump and Xi.

Trade negotiations could still be affected due to the diplomatic row following the arrest of Huawei's Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou in Canada at the request of the USA for allegedly violating sanctions against Iran.

A United States delegation will visit China next week to participate in vice-ministerial level trade talks that have been ongoing since early 2018, it was announced here on Friday. Just $5 a month.

In a December 1 meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Xi and Trump agreed on a 90-day truce to negotiate their differences in the ongoing trade dispute.
