One name that could return is special teams coordinator Amos Jones, who spent time with Kitchens in Arizona on the Cardinals.

Kitchens seems to be the fan favorite of the group for what he did with the teams' offense over the last eight weeks of the season when he took over for Todd Haley, who was sacked as offensive coordinator.

The Browns have had 10 different head coaches since the franchise reentered the National Football League in 1999, and two have been interim head coaches.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, in the first eight games without Kitchens as OC, Mayfield was 130-of-223 (56.5%) for 1,471 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions. Kitchens, who was a three-year starting quarterback at Alabama, wasn't afraid to be creative as he used wide receiver Jarvis Landry on running plays and to throw passes, and he got major production from rookie running back Nick Chubb, left tackle Greg Robinson and receiver Breshad Perriman - three players under-utilized by Jackson and Haley. Additionally, Kitchens and the Browns offense ranked 11th in points per game in the final three weeks as well. Williams had the interim head coach tag after the Browns fired Hue Jackson in October, and the team went on a 5-2 run after that firing. He then stated it was because, "Coaching Baker Mayfield is not something that appeals to successful head coaches".

Browns GM John Dorsey spoke highly of Kitchens' ability to improve the offense during his post-season press conference.

"I like it here and I like it here a lot, and everybody around here knows that I like it here", Kitchens said last month.

According to various reports Wednesday, Freddie Kitchens will be promoted in Cleveland after a strong showing as offensive coordinator in the second half of the season.

Kitchens, who had his interview Monday, was one of seven candidates in the first round of interviews. "Cleveland and I get along well".

Kitchens and Williams kept their players focused and motivated following the mid-season coaching change and the Browns went 7-8-1 following an 0-16 season in 2017 under Jackson.
