Warnings upgraded as heavy snow forecast

A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place from 1pm today until 9pm tomorrow.

Temperatures in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, plunged to minus 14.5C (5.9F) on Thursday evening, which is the lowest temperature recorded anywhere in the United Kingdom since 2012, according to the Met Office.

Dan Holley, of Norwich-based Weatherquest, said the approaching weather system was looking "quite weak" with any snow accumulations "generally small and insignificant".

Several departures from London City Airport were delayed this morning due to poor visibility a day after airports in Manchester and Liverpool were forced to delay flights due to heavy snow.
