Black Caucus again calls on Northam to resign

Vanessa Tyson, a 42-year-old political scientist who is on a fellowship at Stanford University and specialises in the political discourse of sexual assault, said, "I have no political motive".

"With tremendous anguish, I am now sharing this information about my experience and setting the record straight ... I have never done anything like what she suggests".

Tyson described herself as a "proud Democrat", whose only interest was to refute the "falsehoods and aspersions of my character", she wrote.

The law firm that represented Kavanaugh during his contentious confirmation hearings last fall is representing embattled Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax as he defends himself against allegations of sexual assault.

Fairfax, also a Democrat, released a statement Monday calling the accusations "false and unsubstantiated".

"At no time did she express to me any discomfort or concern about our interactions, neither during that encounter, nor during the months that followed it, when she stayed in touch with me, nor the past fifteen years".

On Thursday Herring released a statement on Twitter which did not acknowledge the existence of a photo but did detail an incident from his youth.

Freyd did not respond to The Daily's request for comment. Governor Ralph Northam faces calls to resign over a racist 1984 medical school yearbook photo, in which the then-student wore blackface while standing next to a student in a Ku Klux Klan robe.

The identity of the two men isn't clear from the pictures alone but the fact it appears on Northam's yearbook page is a strong suggestion one of them is him.

Last week Herring, who like Northam is white and is second in line to succeed the governor after Fairfax, had called for Northam to resign.

On Wednesday, Virginia's attorney general, Democrat Mark Herring, admitted that he, too, wore blackface at a 1980 college party. Indeed, Tyson hired Katz for the goal of drawing that parallel - and that's not meant cynically, it just makes sense for someone trying to lodge a complaint like this to align themselves with attorneys who've already shown credibility in that arena.

Tyson's statement - along with the fact that she hired the same law firm that represented Dr. Christine Blasey Ford during Ford's allegations a year ago against now Supreme Court Justice Brent Kavanaugh - was a sign to Fairfax and his team that the story wasn't going anywhere.

We assess him day-by-day. "He is showing on social media that he looks very strong and very fit, running and doing some exercises. It's going well so far, but we have just got to take our time with it and make sure we get it right.

Fairfax, in line to be governor if Northam were to resign, has been accused of sexual misconduct, which he denies.

Many House and Senate Democrats, as well as Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, have all called on Northam to resign, but party leadership has remained mostly silent on the assault claim against Fairfax. While the kiss was consensual, Tyson said, what happened next was not.

State Sen. Barbara Favola said "it's still a he-said, she-said" and suggested an investigation should be done in MA. I can not agree with a description of events that I know is not true. reading Dr. Tyson's account is painful.

"After the assault, I suffered from both deep humiliation and shame". While Fairfax has asked for his family and Tyson's family to be respected and given privacy, he has continually stuck to his initial statement that he has nothing to hide. Big League Politics, a conservative online publication, published a screenshot of the post on Sunday. "Over the past several days, he has even toyed with the idea of leaving the Democratic Party and governing as an independent - a sign of the degree that he is isolated from every political ally, from his state party and from the national party".

Fairfax now sits on the Sanford School Board of Visitors at Duke, according to the Board's website.
