President Trump to Hold MAGA Rally in El Paso on Monday

President Donald Trump warned in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday of migrant caravans and accused Mexican cities of busing migrants to the border "to bring them up to our country in areas where there is little border protection".

Additionally, Trump 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale said the rally will be held less than 1000 feet from the "successful border fence that keeps El Paso safe".

The president has until February 15 to convince congressional Democrats of this point or face the reality of a second government shutdown over the issue.

The politician then asked readers to consider "how we arrived at such a disconnect between our ideals, our values, the reality of our lives", arguing against the "cynical exploitation of nativism and fear" that drives distorted narratives on immigration.

El Paso's Democratic sheriff, Richard Wiles, disagreed with Trump's claim that the wall stopped crime in the city.

As Congress continues negotiations on President Trump's proposed wall on the U.S. -Mexico border, the Trump campaign has announced that the president will hold his first rally of 2019 on Monday in El Paso, Texas, another border community.

Key federal agencies are now operating on a short-term spending bill Trump signed January 25, when he ended the nation's longest ever government shutdown without getting the money he wants for his wall. O'Rourke and local leaders say Trump's facts are wrong and walls are irrelevant.

Cuellar said $5.7 billion for the wall is "not going to happen".

If Pelosi and McConnell embrace a bipartisan agreement, it could isolate Trump and pressure him to accept it without re-escalating the fight.

Additionally, the number of large groups - more than 100 people - encountered by Border Patrol skyrocketed this fiscal year, the official said.

The president has repeatedly made inaccurate and false statements about drugs and crime along the border, including those about El Paso.

For the past 20 years, a number of published ratings have listed El Paso as one of the nation's safest cities, and Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics show that, like most major USA cities, El Paso's crime rate has been dropping since the mid-1990s.

"Such caravans are the result of Congress's inexcusable failure to fully fund a needed physical barrier and unwillingness to fix outdated laws that act as an enormous magnet for illegal aliens", Nielsen said.

Until recently, most people caught crossing the border illegally were men from Mexico, but now Central American families and unaccompanied minors make up some 60 percent of those apprehended, data from the agency show.

In a statement Wednesday, Michael Glassner, chief operating officer for Trump's reelection campaign, said that El Paso was chosen as a rally site to highlight the president's message.
