UFC 234 was an attractive even with Whittaker facing Kelvin Gastelum for the middleweight title and Adesanya/Silva vying for the right to fight the victor, but Whittaker's exit has turned the event on its head.

"According to White, Whittaker (20-4 MMA, 11-2 UFC) started to complain of pain in his abdomen late last night and was taken to the hospital".

ESPN first reported the news and said Whittaker's withdrawal was not a result of weight cutting issues.
