Five-time Major victor Phil Mickelson was among a group of six players tied for third place on six under which also included Australia's Jason Day.

According to the PGA Tour, Mickelson has done it seven times, most recently 21 years ago at Torrey Pines. 'I may have done it before but I don't ever recall doing it'.

Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell is four under after bogeying the final hole at Pebble Beach.

Spieth was even at the turn but ran in five birdies coming home.
