Barely two months ago, Omar was celebrated as somewhat of a poster congresswoman: the first naturalized United States citizen from Africa, first Somali-American, first hijab-wearing Muslim and first minority woman to represent Minnesota in Congress. Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) as lawmakers speak about the Voting Rights Enhancement Act, H.R. 4, on Capitol Hill on February 26, 2019 in Washington, DC. A vote on the Democratic version could occur as early as Wednesday, with the apparent approval of party leaders who have grown exhausted of Omar's rhetoric and signaled they will allow the resolution to receive a vote. The motion was agreed to 424-0, with Omar among those voting for it. Whether or not one appreciates Trump's Twitter contributions, they certainly do shine a light on the targets Trump chooses.

Ocasio-Cortez wasn't alone in condemning the poster.

Last month, Republican lawmakers pushed legislation for condemning anti-Semitism after Omar said on Twitter that political support for Israel was entirely motivated by money doled out by the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.

Ocasio-Cortez's tweets came hours after President Trump used his Twitter account - with almost 59 million followers - to lambaste Omar: "Representative Ilhan Omar is again under fire for her bad comments concerning Israel", she said.

But while Tlaib's long-running ties to genocidal Jew-haters, Holocaust deniers, and apologists for the Shiite supremacist terror group Hezbollah are now out in the public domain, it is Omar's tripling down on the infamous "dual loyalty" canard that is the immediate cause of the resolution's being brought to the House floor.

Omar, who was also recently the target of an Islamaphobic display likening her to a Muslim terrorist, defended herself in a string of tweets on Sunday night.

Lowey replied in an attempt to explain why the comments are "so hurtful", before closing the conversation with: "I believe we can debate important policy without using offensive, painful stereotypes".

Peter Daou, a Democratic strategist who advised both former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry called into question whether Omar's comments were actually anti-Semitic.

A House Democratic leadership aide said the vote could come as early as Wednesday.

Still, chastising her indirectly represents an uncomfortable development for Democrats who have been celebrating Omar, a Somali-American immigrant, as a symbol of a historically diverse House freshman class. Many Republicans, like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, are considering moving a censure motion against Omar, according to Politico.

Moreover, Omar now sits on the House Foreign Affairs committee, whose chair Eliot Engel (D-New York) also called her remarks a "vile anti-Semitic slur". She also tweeted, "I have not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel, I have questioned it and that has been clear from my end". "I commend my colleagues who have spoken out against her unrelenting, unabashed anti-Semitic attacks".

Omar's office has not made an official response to the allegations of anti-Semitism. "The hatred that regularly pours out of her heart is a cause of the underlying problem with anti-Semitism in the world and absolutely not the answer to it".
