Authorities found two young California sisters unharmed Sunday morning nearly 48 hours after they wandered away from their rural Humboldt County home, triggering a massive search that included helicopters, tracking dogs and help from law enforcement agencies across the region.

In all, the official search lasted 44 hours until the girls were found at 10:30 a.m. Sunday as the sheriff's office prepared for a press conference to provide updated information on the effort, KTVN reported.

The search for the missing girls involved over 21 agencies and more than 200 volunteers.

"We could not have had a better outcome than we've had this morning", Honsal said. "We found some granola bar wrappers, and we confirmed with the mum" that they were wrappers of granola bars she purchased", Fridley said.

She was last seen wearing a maroon rain jacket with white horses, blue jeans and pink rain boots. They were found by a local fire chief and firefighter about a mile and a half away in a wooded area.

Humboldt County Supervisor Estelle Fennell praised the rescuers and thanked the community for all their prayers over the course of the search.

"We have a lot of clues as to the direction they went". Some of the teams told our reporter they drove six or more hours to get to Humboldt.
