The Oculus Rift S is the newest iteration, offering increased resolution and tracking without external sensors, which should make it the ideal workout headset.

Unlike the Oculus Go and the Oculus Quest, the Oculus Rift S isn't a standalone VR device. However, the Rift S does borrow from the upcoming Oculus Quest in other areas.

Over the past month or so, we've been hearing a lot of rumblings about an alleged new VR headset being developed by Oculus.

Over at Game Developers Conference 2019, Oculus has announced the new addition to its virtual reality headset family: the Rift S. For this initial announcement, Oculus seems to only be describing the Rift S is broad strokes, which means that we'll be waiting a little while for precise specifications. The Rift S also boasts an updated visual quality with a total resolution of 2560 x 1440 on a fast-switch LCD display with a refresh rate of 80 Hz. From the looks of things, though, the new Touch controllers will be included with the headset, so fingers crossed they won't bump up the final cost when it eventually launches.

By using inside-out tracking method which the company referred to as the Oculus Insight, there is no need for external sensors as opposed to the original Rift headset.

Other changes include replacing the on-ear headphones of its predecessor with speakers positioned near your ear, a slightly larger field-of-view, no manual adjustment of distance between your eyes (IPD), a PlayStation VR-esque design instead of a flexible strap, and one display instead of two.

Sega shows off customisation in Team Sonic Racing
Alongside this, Sega also showed off a new trailer for all the customisation options that will be available in the game. Overall, it looks like the delay from holiday 2018 to May 2019 has done Team Sonic Racing some good.

I marveled at the planets in the nebulous skies of Asgard as I crossed a rainbow bridge and noticed tons of gory detail as I battled a Kraken in a violent ocean, though I can't definitively say how much better the fidelity is compared to what you'd get on a standard Rift.
