Disney+ launching on November 12 for $7/month with 4K HDR content


The company has begun clawing back its movies from the streaming giant in preparation for the Disney+ launch, executive said.

Disney's Investor Day culminated with a special clip of the Simpsons gang saluting their new Disney "corporate overlords", leading to the announcement that Disney+, the upcoming Disney direct-to-consumer platform, will be the exclusive SVOD home of the classic 20th Century Fox TV-produced series.

Disney unveiled details of the service on Thursday after the close, saying it would launch November 12 at a price of $7 a month or $70 a year.

Netflix remains the first and last word in TV streaming, and is the most-watched service in all countries it operates in aside from Finland, where Yle Areena is the favourite.

Not only that, but think of every Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic movie or TV show and it'll be on Disney+, according to Business Insider.

It's unclear if the Windows 10 and Xbox One Disney+ apps will be available on November 12th or if they're planned to launch soon afterwards.

When a user opens Disney+, they will be offered up a variety of recommended content (similar to Netflix), as well as showing new content available on the platform.

Disney original films were also announced to arrive within a year of the service.

What devices will Disney+ work on? The theme? Family-friendly content. That includes Marvel, where the major motion pictures, as well as incoming television series, will be found. The service will be ad-free, supported exclusively by subscription fees, and will be available on gaming consoles, smart TV's, and connected streaming devices.

Other original titles include Diary of a Female President, Noelle, Togo, Timmy Failure, and Stargirl. The series is reportedly set to follow stories of famed bounty hunters, Jango and Boba Fett, in the Star Wars universe.
